love others as Christ has loved you

this week a year ago my neighbor who lived across from me died in her sleep while her house was on fire. i met her and we always waved as we went into our own houses. she lived alone and was not in contact with her family. i am always inviting people over for dinner and over for holidays, but somehow i never asked her over. and she was right there across the street every time i had company. i will never again have the opportunity to show her hospitality or the kindness of Christ. i can only hope that she already knew Christ and is with Him now. i guess what i want to say is don't wait when God impresses on your heart to show someone kindness. we never know what life will bring tomorrow. so do what He asks of you to do immediately. write that note. make that phone call. cook that dinner. whatever He tells you to do. because someone is waiting on you to be God to them. it's His kindness that leads us to repentance and He speaks to others through our words and actions. remember the singles and elderly in your life as well as other people who need you during the holidays. you may be the very thing that reveals God's love to them.

separate but equal

i went to dillard's yesterday with nan to look at the Christmas goodies there. while we were there we looked at the Christmas trees as well. i noticed that one had a black santa. and a black angel. and then i noticed that all of the ornaments where black people. then i looked around and sure enough there was a tree with all white people as ornaments. um... can someone please tell then that separate but equal is no longer legal and that integration is. for the love.

lost penguins

em was freaking out last night b/c she couldn't find her penguin puppet. she has been sleeping with it the past few nights and needed for bed time last night. she asked me to help her look for it and of course i did. we found it thank goodness! we talked about it later b/c she asked me if i really cared if we found the penguin or not. i told her that i cared about it b/c she did. this opened the floor to talk about how God is concerned about everything that we are concerned about, even if it seems silly to others. if our earthly fathers love us and want the best for us, how much more does our Father in heaven love us?! so thanks God, for lost penguins and opportunities to share Your goodness with my daugher! and thanks that You are concerned with everything that concerns us!!

Sweet fellowship

I have been thinking a lot lately about Cody and Kara coming home for the holidays. I really miss them and can't wait to see them! I have been thinking about what foods they like best (now's the time to put in your menu btw) and what games we will be playing together. Mostly I've been thinking about seeing them and talking with them face to face. Thanks to skype we have chatted several times and that has been great. But in person will be even greater! There will be no technical problems with the computers and internet.

And so for the past couple days I can't help but think that that's how God thinks about us. I bet He is so excited to see us face to face and to commune with us around His dinner table! He probably has all of our favorite treats planned for great feasts together and times planned where we can visit and just enjoy each others' company.

The amazing thing to me is that, while we will enjoy a pure, uninterrupted fellowship with Him in Heaven, we can also enjoy sweet fellowship with Him now on earth as well. Thanks to the redeeming power of Christ's work on the cross there is no longer a veil or anything else hindering our communion with God. We have full access to our Father. I believe that He is longing for that sweet communion with us now as well as when we are in Heaven. He calls us to His presence and has all kinds of good things for us here on earth, such as overwhelming peace, abundant blessings, and wonderful friends and family.

My prayer is that I will not let technical difficulties of life (busyness, too much to do, etc.) hinder my communion with my Father. That I will delight in His presence as much as I delight in the presence of my friends and family. I want to remain on His path for my life and to continue to walk in His favor. He is so amazing. He jealously longs for my affection, and I am beyond speechless that He showers me with His love. How great is His love towards me!

Here is a verse to think on...

"And now, dear children, remain in fellowship with Christ so that when he returns, you will be full of courage and not shrink back from him in shame" 1 John 2:28.

Grateful

i'm sitting here listening to em sing in the shower :) and pondering God's goodness toward us. He is so amazing! He has blessed us with good health, good family and friends, a home and a car, and so much more. and guess what? He's not done blessing me! just when i think He couldn't possibly do anything else for me, He does!! He created me and knew me in my mother's womb. He died for me while i was still a sinner. still a sinner! and then, He pursued me and called me by my name. then when i turned to Him, He assured me with all of His promises. He will never leave me! He is my Rock and He never changes! He's not a man that He should lie! He is my Maker and my Husband! I am His and He is mine! I am my Beloved's and His desire is towards me! can you even imagine that? the Creator of the heavens and the earth, the Savior of the world, the King of Kings, desires me?! and guess what, His desire is also towards you! He is desperately longing to be gracious to you. He is calling you by your name. i bet if you listen you will hear Him calling you. He is so amazing! em (who is now out of the shower) says...God is holy. He creates beautiful music for us and He is good at everything and nothing will confuse Him b/c He is God and God knows everything and He is awesome... i'd say that's a fine way to end this blog entry :)

well, this is the first official posting of the Shulamight. i will keep it short as i am supposed to be doing homework at the moment :) this blog is going to be quite an adventure. i will be posting some observations from everyday life (ex: the girl on the bus who ate the ENTIRE apple the other day). i will also be posting things that God lays on my heart to share. i am excited to see what He has in store for me. let me leave you with one of my favorite verses... "but I found him whom my soul loveth: I held him, and would not let him go" Song of Solomon 3:4.
